THE DEAL PIPELINE: HarperCollins buys Thomas Nelson Inc.

News Corp.'s HarperCollins Publishers said Monday, Oct. 31, that it is buying PE-backed religious publisher Thomas Nelson Inc. The backers of Thomas Nelson include Kohlberg & Co. LLC, which took a majority stake in June 2010. The Nashville target publishes titles such as current best-seller "Heaven Is For Real" by Todd Burpo and works by Billy Graham. The parties expect to close the deal by the end of 2012. Peter J. Solomon Co. bankers Rich Brail, Juan Mejia, Ben Zinder and Charles Brody advised the sellers, who retained Angelo Bonvino of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP as counsel.
