David Hopkins is a Managing Director in PJ SOLOMON’s Energy Advisory Group. He joined the firm in 2016 and is based in Houston, Texas.


Mr. Hopkins has over 30 years of experience in all phases of the oil and gas industry, including acquisitions and divestitures, reservoir engineering, exploration, drilling and production, financial and strategic planning. He began his career as a Petroleum Engineer with Houston Oil and Minerals Corporation, and held various technical and management positions with Tenneco Oil Company, Apache Corporation and EnerVest Management Company. More recently, his work has been focused on acquisitions and divestitures. Before joining PJ SOLOMON, Mr. Hopkins served for six years as Senior Vice President of A&D for Macquarie Capital. Prior to that, he spent six years as Vice President of A&D at Tristone Capital (formerly Petroleum Place Energy Advisors).

Mr. Hopkins has been instrumental in the closing of over $9 billion in A&D advisory transactions carried out across several of the major U.S. basins, including the Gulf Coast, East Texas, Permian Basin, Mid-Continent, California and the Rocky Mountains. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Texas.


Mr. Hopkins graduated cum laude from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
