Remembering Jack Bogle

John C. "Jack" Bogle On January 16, 2019, John “Jack” C. Bogle passed away at the age of 89. Jack was the founder of the Vanguard Group and the creator of the world’s first index fund. Jack transformed the way Americans invest and profoundly changed our industry for the better.

Jack graduated from Princeton University in 1951 and began his career at Wellington Fund, where he eventually became its chairman. He founded Vanguard in 1975 and later served as chairman and CEO until 1996. Jack also wrote numerous books including, “Common Sense on Mutual Funds: New Imperatives for the Intelligent Investor,” which is still considered a classic investment book.

Jack has been a longtime friend and supporter of Solomon Partners. In a letter to our Founder, Peter J. Solomon, Jack wrote:

“It’s refreshing to realize such a class act can still exist in today’s Wall Street. We need more firms like Solomon Partners, with both style and substance.”

Our thoughts are with the Bogle family and Vanguard employees and clients. Jack will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue.
